MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup delivered top moments throughout the tournament, as Liga Deportiva Alajuelense earned its third consecutive title. 

Here are some of the standout moments from this year’s edition. 

LD Alajuelense wins three consecutive Concacaf Central American Cup titles 

LD Alajuelense successfully defended the Concacaf Central American Cup in consecutive seasons, winning its third trophy. The Costa Rican side is the only club to win the CAC since its inaugural edition in 2023. 

Additionally, La Liga completed a feat few clubs have achieved in the region. Only Cruz Azul (1969, 1970, 1971), and CF Monterrey (2011, 2012, 2013) have managed to win three consecutive Concacaf tournaments.

Xelajú becomes first Guatemalan team to reach a Central American Cup Final

CSD Xelajú MC made history by becoming the first club from Guatemala to reach the Central American Cup. Xela ended a drought by reaching its first international final in 43 years. 

Los Chivos came close to glory, losing the Final via the penalty shootout after the two sides were inseparable, 2-2, on aggregate.  

Aside from this year’s finalists, Nicaraguan side Real Estelí is the only other club that has played in the CAC Final.

Mora becomes LDA's hero with outstanding performances in the Final 

Bayron Mora rose to the occasion, stepping in as the starting goalkeeper in the Final in place of the injured Washington Ortega. Mora delivered six saves across the two championship matches and maintained his great play with two saves in the penalty shootout.

For his heroics, Mora was named the recipient of the Best Player Award, presented by Scotiabank, for being an integral part in leading LD Alajuelense to its third Concacaf Central American Cup title. 

LDA, Xelajú, Real España, Cartaginés, Olimpia, and Sporting SM qualify to Champions Cup 

LD Alajuelense, CSD Xelajú MC, Real CD España, CD Olimpia, CS Cartaginés, and Sporting San Miguelito were the six teams to qualify for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup. As the champions, Alajuelense will receive a bye to the Round of 16.

Alajuelense, Xelajú, Real España, and Olimpia all secured their spots as semifinalists in the latest Concacaf Central American Cup. CS Cartaginés and Sporting San Miguelito qualified as the winners of the Play-In.

Jorge Benguché wins the Golden Boot, sets new CAC scoring record 

Honduran forward Jorge Benguché was the winner of the Top Goal Scorer Award, presented by Aramco, for his eight goals for CD Olimpia.  

Benguché also extended his all-time tally in the tournament to 12 goals to set a new record.
