MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup Group Stage delivered top moments as the latest edition of the competition kicked off.

Here we present the best moments from the Group Stage.

Unbeaten Group Stage for debutants Plaza Amador

CD Plaza Amador made its Central American Cup debut with a standout Group Stage, winning Group A with a perfect 4-0-0 record for a total 12 points. The club became the first debutant from Panama to win its group and the second team in the tournament’s history to win all of its four matches in a Group Stage. Plaza Amador also tied CA Independiente as the Panamanian clubs with the most goals in a Group Stage (11).

Additionally, in its debut match, Plaza Amador defeated defending champions LD Alajuelense 2-1 with a thrilling comeback to snap the Costa Rican club’s 20-match all-time unbeaten run in the Central American Cup.

Abraham Altamirano becomes youngest scorer in competition history

Abraham Altamirano made history in CA Independiente’s 3-1 win over Verdes FC in matchweek three, scoring CAI’s second goal in the match, becoming the youngest scorer in CCAC history at 17 years and 2 months.

400th goal in the Central American Cup

Managua FC’s 3-2 loss at Plaza Amador on matchweek four saw Mauro Verón score the 400th goal in tournament history. Verón scored a brace for Managua as part of his milestone appearance.

Five debutants in the upcoming Quarterfinals

The 2025 Central American Cup Knockout Stage will feature five debutants: CSD Xelajú MC, CD Olimpia, Sporting San Miguelito, Real España and Plaza Amador.

Olimpia, Sporting San Miguelito and Plaza Amador won their respective groups. Plaza Amador topped Group A unbeaten with 12 points and a perfect 4-0-0 record. Sporting won Group B with seven points and a 2-1-1 record. Olimpia claimed the lead in Group D, unbeaten with 10 points and a 3-1-0 record.

Xelajú and Real España advanced to the Quarterfinals by securing second place finishes. Real España came in second in Group B with six points and a 2-0-2 record. Xelajú placed second in Group D with a 3-0-1 record and nine points.

Alajuelense and Motagua the only teams to advance to Quarterfinals in first three editions

Back-to-back defending champions LD Alajuelense and FC Motagua made history as the only clubs to reach the Quarterfinals stage in the first three editions.

La Liga finished second in Group A with nine points and a 3-0-1 record and will continue its defense in the search of a third consecutive title.

El Ciclón Azul won Group C unbeaten with a 2-2-0 record for a total eight points and will aim to advance past the Quarterfinals for the first time.
