MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with Sporting San Miguelito hosting CSD Xelajú MC in the Second Leg of their Quarter Finals series on Thursday at Estadio Universidad Latina in Llano Marín, Panama.

CSD Xelajú MC enters with a 2-nil lead and was the lone club to win at home in its First Leg encounter. Kevin Ruiz and Derrickson Quirós scored in the second half, while Rubén Darío Silva earned the clean sheet.

Jesús López delivered the assist on both Xelajú goals in the first leg, placing him in a tie for first place with Real CD España’s Jhow Benavídez with four assists in the 2025 edition. López is also third among all players with 17 chances.

As a team, Xelajú is the fourth-highest scoring team of the campaign with 11 goals, and the fourth most effective with a 24% conversion rate. With 1,968 passes, the Guatemalan side has the third-most passes among all clubs. Jorge Aparicio leads all players individually with 300 passes.

Sporting San Miguelito goalkeeper Marcos de León leads all players with 24 saves. Five of those saves came in the second leg for a 71.4% success rate.

The away goals rule will be used as the first tiebreaker in the event of a draw on aggregate. Only a 2-nil win for Sporting San Miguelito would trigger Extra Time and penalties, if necessary.

Milestones & Records from the First Leg

First home Quarterfinal win for a Guatemalan club

Xelajú MC recorded the first-ever home victory for a Guatemalan club in the Quarterfinals of the Central American Cup. It is only the second win overall for a Guatemalan team at this stage, following Antigua GFC’s 3-0 away win over Deportivo Saprissa in 2024.

Antonio López becomes all-time assist leader

With two assists in the win over Sporting San Miguelito, Antonio López became the all-time assist leader in Central American Cup history, with a total of 8 assists. He also matched his personal best of 4 assists in a single edition, previously set in 2023.

Milestone goal for Derrickson Quirós

Costa Rican forward Derrickson Quirós scored his first goal in the competition, becoming the youngest Costa Rican player to score for a non-Costa Rican club in the history of the tournament (23 years, 9 months, 3 days).

Aerial dominance: First team with two headed goals in QFs

Xelajú MC became the first team to score two headed goals in a single Quarterfinal match. They are only the second club to achieve this in a knockout stage, after CS Herediano did so in the second leg of the 2024 Semifinals against Real Estelí FC.

First-ever win and clean sheet vs Panamanian opposition

Xelajú also earned their first-ever victory against a Panamanian club in the competition and registered their first clean sheet against opposition from Panama.

Uphill task for Sporting San Miguelito

History is against Sporting San Miguelito, as no team has ever advanced after losing the first leg away in any phase of the tournament. The Panamanian side will aim to break that trend in the second leg.
