Historic series
This will be the first-ever meeting between Real España and Sporting San Miguelito in the history of the Concacaf Central American Cup. For Real España, it will mark their first match against a Panamanian club in this competition. Meanwhile, for Sporting San Miguelito, it will be their third game against Honduran opposition in the tournament.
In the 2023 edition, the Panamanian side lost 2-0 to FC Motagua on August 9, with both goals scored by Yeison Mejía, and later bounced back with a 2-0 win over Olancho FC on August 31, courtesy of goals from Gabriel Torres and Alexis Corpas.
In official competitions, Real España has faced Panamanian clubs three times, with a balanced record of one win, one draw, and one loss. They played twice in the Concacaf League (1 draw, 1 loss) and once in the Interclub Cup, where they earned their only victory. That win came on August 23, 2000, with a 2-1 result against Árabe Unido at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City. Carlos Oliva and Luis “El Bombero” Ramírez scored for the “Aurinegros,” while Jairo Cadena netted for the home side. The match was part of Matchday 1 in Group B of the tournament’s second stage.
As for Sporting San Miguelito, the only official matches they’ve played against Honduran clubs remain those two from the previous edition of the Central American Cup.
