ALAJUELA, Costa Rica – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with debutants CD Plaza Amador securing a 2-1 comeback win against defending champions LD Alajuelense in Group A on Tuesday at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Jonathan Moya gave the champions the lead in the 39’, sending the ball to the back the net with a header from the center of the box to capitalize on a precise cross from Jeison Lucumí.
Lucumí nearly doubled the lead for Alajuelense in the 41’ with a right-footed hit from outside the box that was just wide of the right post.
La Liga had back-to-back opportunities in the 47’, first with a shot from Creichel Pérez from inside the box that was saved by Plaza Amador goalkeeper Samuel Castañeda, followed by a second attempt from Alejandro Bran that was wide of the mark.
Yoameth Murillo struck from the center of the box in the 73’ to level the scoring for the visitors with Plaza’s first goal in CCAC history. José Murillo provided the assist on the play.
Everardo Rose secured the comeback for Plaza Amador in the 90+4’, with a through ball from Ricardo Phillips finding him in space before scoring with a finish to the bottom left corner.
LD Alajuelense will visit Managua FC in Nicaragua as action in the Central American Cup continues next Thursday. Plaza Amador will resume play on August 12, when it faces Antigua GFC in Guatemala.
