MIAMI – The 2025 Central American Cup opens with three matches in Group A on Tuesday, including Managua FC facing Antigua GFC at Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua.

The match presents the first encounter between the sides in an official competition in their history.

Managua FC is gearing up for a second participation at a CCAC after clinching the Nicaraguan First Division Torneo Clausura 2025 title. In 2024, Managua finished fourth in Group D with four points and a 1-1-2 record. Managua began its 2025 Torneo Apertura campaign in the Nicaraguan First Division with win, a loss and a draw in its first three fixtures.

Antigua will make a second appearance at a CCAC after having a memorable debut campaign in 2024 with a run to the semifinals. Los Panzas Verdes secured its berth in the 2025 edition by being crowned Guatemalan First Division Torneo Clausura 2025 champions, and recently started its title defense in the 2025 Torneo Apertura with two victories.

Head-To-Head 

They will face each other for the first time in the Central American Cup. For Managua FC, it will be their second match against a Guatemalan club in the history of the tournament. In the 2024 edition, they faced CSD Municipal on Matchday 1 of Group D on July 31, 2024, earning a 1-0 win thanks to a penalty goal by Arley Bonilla. Internationally, that remains Managua FC’s only match against Guatemalan clubs and their only victory in all their appearances in official Concacaf competitions (they recorded one loss and two draws in the Scotiabank Concacaf League and one win, two losses, and one draw in the Central American Cup).

Meanwhile, for Antigua GFC, this will be their first international encounter against Nicaraguan clubs. In previous international appearances in official Concacaf club competitions, they had only faced opponents from Belize (W-1), Costa Rica (W-1 D-2 L-1), El Salvador (D-2 L-1), Honduras (D-2 L-1), Panama (W-1 D-1), Canada (W-1 D-1), and the United States (D-1 L-2), with an overall record in those matchups of W-2 D-9 L-5.
