SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with CS
Herediano playing to a 4-4 draw against CSD Municipal in Group B on Thursday at Estadio
Nacional de Costa Rica in San José, Costa Rica.

Both sides were out to seek a result in their respective hopes to earn the last Quarterfinals spot.

Elías Aguilar opened the scoring in the 22’ with a fantastic free-kick conversion to place the 
hosts in the lead.

Rudy Barrientos equalized in the 32’ with a right-footed strike inside the box to connect on a
long through ball from Yasnier Matos.

Brian Rubio placed Herediano back in the lead in the 67’ with a penalty conversion that just
made it past Municipal goalkeeper Kénderson Navarro.

José Mena put the Guatemalan side level again in the 69’, putting a header to a free kick
delivery from Pedro Altán.

Marcel Hernández struck a header of his own in the 71’ to place Herediano back up by one,
assisted by Darril Araya with a cross from the left flank.


Yunior Pérez delivered a screamer from long range in the 74’ as Municipal once again tied the
encounter.

Herediano once again took the lead in the 90’, as Brian Rubio connected with a header from
close range to meet a cross by Randy Vega.

Municipal drew on the scoreboard for the fourth time in the 90’+2’ as Pedro Altán played off the
give-and-go with José Mena. The Guatemalan club was unable to take the lead before time
expired, as a victory would have sent it to the Knockout Round.

CS Herediano ends its campaign with a 1-1-2 record and four points for fifth place in Group B.

CSD Municipal finished third in the group with a 1-3-0 record and six points, missing the
Quarterfinals due to goal difference.
