PENONOME, Panama — The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Sporting San Miguelito winning 2-1 against CSD Xelajú MC in the second leg of their Quarterfinals series, with the latter winning the series 3-2 on aggregate, on Thursday at Estadio Universidad Latina in Penonome, Panama.
Xelajú entered with a 2-nil lead after winning the first leg at home. Sporting San Miguelito’s two-goals in regular time sent the second leg to extra time with the teams tied on aggregate.
Ángel Valencia opened the scoring in the 4’ with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner, after bringing down a cross from Kevin Galván, to cut the deficit on aggregate.
Yair Jaen converted on a penalty attempt in the 88’ to extend the lead for the hosts and draw on aggregate.
Romário da Silva delivered the series-winning goal in the 119’ with a left-footed strike from the left side of the field, converting from a difficult angle, as Xelajú retook the lead on aggregate.
The result sees CSD Xelajú MC advance to the Semifinals of the Central American Cup. The Guatemalan club also secured a berth in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.
