GUATEMALA CITY – Comunicaciones FC won 2-1 against C.D. Marathón in the 2024 Central American Cup on Wednesday at the Estadio Cementos Progreso in Guatemala City.

Azarías Londoño converted from the penalty spot in the 17’ to give the Guatemalan side the lead. 

Diego Casas extended the lead for the hosts in the 45'+2, beating Marathón goalkeeper César Samudio with a right-footed shot from inside the box.

Alexy Vega struck for the visitors in the 63’, beating Comunicaciones goalkeeper Fredy Pérez with a left-footed long-distance attempt for the only Marathón goal in the match. 

With seven points in three matches, Comunicaciones continues their undefeated start and rises to the top spot in Group B. The Guatemalan club also extended its unbeaten run in the tournament to five matches, dating back to last year’s campaign. 

The next opponent for the Cremas is Liga Deportiva Alajuelense on August 27 in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Marathón, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back with its first victory when it hosts CD Luis Ángel Firpo on August 21 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
