MIAMI, Florida – A spot in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup will be on the line on Tuesday when Comunicaciones of Guatemala host Costa Rican club Cartagines in the second leg of the 2023 Concacaf Central American Cup Play-In at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

The two sides battled to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Costa Rica, giving Comunicaciones the slight edge via the away goal tiebreaker going into Tuesday night’s affair.

Comunicaciones will certainly fancy their chances of reaching the Champions Cup after having scored in six of their seven matches in this Central American Cup.

Jose Corena has led the way with three goals, while Gerardo Gordillo came up big in the first leg by scoring the team’s goal.

Antonio Lopez has been superb as well with four assists to go along with a goal, while Jorge Aparicio has been his usual active self in the middle of the field, making seven ball recoveries and completing 53 passes in the first leg.

Cartagines will no doubt come out with an aggressive mindset knowing that they have to score, so they will be keen to feed FW Marcel Hernandez, who leads the team in the tournament with three goals.

Jostin Daly, who tallied the Cartagines goal in the first leg, is another player to watch and has two goals in the tournament.

GK Kevin Briceno will need to produce his best and try to keep a clean sheet to give his side a chance, while veteran Aubrey David could be a difference maker down the wing. Briceno made six saves in the first leg, while David completed 50 passes and made six clearances.
