BELMOPAN, Belize – Antigua GFC won 4-1 over Port Layola to kick off the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Tuesday night at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.

José Ardón opened the scoring in the 14' with a strike from the edge of the penalty arc.

Rene Leslie tied the match in the 33', sliding at the far post to connect with a diagonal ball from Latrell Middleton.

Ardón scored his second of the day in the 58' to regain the Guatemalan side's lead. Romario da Silva provided the pass to the edge of the six-yard line, finding the Antigua star man.

Latrell Middleton led the home side's attacking efforts with four attempts, including a strike inside the box in the 59’.

Ardón completed his hat-trick in the 69' with a header inside the goal area. Da Silva earned his second assist by providing the cross off a short corner.

Dennis Ramirez struck inside the penalty area in the 87' to add a fourth for the visitors. José Gálvez assisted the play by finding Ramirez inside the box.

Both teams made their debuts in the tournament, with Antigua collecting its first three points. The next match in Group C will be Thursday, when C.D. Olimpia hosts Club Atlético Independiente.

Antigua will continue its campaign at home against C.D. Águila of El Salvador on Tuesday, August 6. Port Layola’s next opponent will be Honduran champion C.D. Olimpia on Thursday, August 8 at home.
