MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with LD Alajuelense hosting CSD Xelajú MC in the First Leg of the Final on Wednesday at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The meeting presents the first-ever matchup between Alajuelense and Xelajú, both in the Central American Cup and in their history.
LD Alajuelense enters its third consecutive Final as it aims to defend its crown and win a seventh international title. The back-to-back titleholders began the tournament in Group A and advanced to the Knockout Stage in second place with a 3-0-1 record.
The Costa Rican powerhouse eliminated FC Motagua in the Quarterfinals, advancing on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate. Its Semifinals triumph against CD Olimpia came in a thrilling penalty shootout following a 2-2 aggregate draw.
La Liga’s journey to the final has seen Anthony Hernández as its top contributor in attack, with three goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Washington Ortega has been ever-present in goal, playing every minute of the campaign in the team’s eight matches and securing two clean sheets. Ortega has made 26 saves and is tied for second place in the 2025 edition.
Xelajú returns to the Final of an international competition after 43 years and aims to clinch its first title in a Concacaf competition. Xelajú started the campaign by securing a second-place finish in Group D with a 3-0-1 record to move onto the Knockout Stage.
Los Chivos eliminated Sporting San Miguelito with a 3-2 aggregate in the Quarterfinals. Xelajú defeated Real CD España 2-1 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 aggregate in the Semifinals, becoming the first Guatemalan side to reach the Central American Cup Final.
Jesús López has been the Xelajú’s top contributor in attack with two goals and four assists in seven appearances. On the other end, goalkeeper Rubén Darío Silva has started in each of the club’s eight matches and has kept three clean sheets. Silva also has 26 saves for second most in the current campaign.
