TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Liga Deportiva Alajuelense earning a 2-1 victory against FC Motagua in the second leg of their Quarterfinals series on Tuesday at Estadio José de la Paz Herrera Uclés in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The clubs drew 2-2 on aggregate, with LD Alajuelense winning the series on away goals. The defending champions advanced to the Semifinals for a third consecutive season and booked a place in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.

FC Motagua entered with a 1-nil lead after winning the first leg. Rodrigo Gómez converted a penalty in the 24’ for Motagua to take the lead in the second leg and extend its lead on aggregate.

Joel Campbell equalized for the visitors in the 30’, burying the ball in the upper left corner with a volley from the center of the box. Anthony Hernández provided the assist on the play. 

Alajuelense came close to taking the lead before the half, but Motagua goalkeeper Luis Ortiz responded with three key saves in the 33’ and 34’ minutes.

Diego Campos struck a late winner for the defending champions in the 90’+1’, finding the back of the net with a right-footed finish from inside the box, to secure the comeback in the match and win the series on away goals.
