MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Caribbean Cup continues with Weymouth Wales FC hosting Cavalier FC in Group B on Wednesday at Wildey Turf in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Both clubs are fighting for a second-place finish to avoid elimination. It will be the first meeting between the two sides, and the first between clubs from Barbados and Jamaica since 2000.
Weymouth Wales drew 1-1 with Defence Force in their last outing, marking the first time a Barbadian club has gone two matches unbeaten in the Caribbean Cup. Ackeel Applewhaite scored his second goal of the tournament, tying Shaquille Stewart as the club’s all-time leading scorer in the competition.
After losing their opening match, Cavalier FC is trending in a better direction by following it up with a draw and win. The reigning champion is seeking to keep its title defense alive in the quest for consecutive trophies.
Historical Series
This will be a first-ever meeting between the two sides in the history of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup and their first encounter in any regional international competition.
For Cavalier FC, it will mark their first match against a club from Barbados in tournament history. Weymouth Wales becomes the 13th different club they have faced in the competition.
To find a previous match between a Jamaican and a Barbadian club in Caribbean international tournaments, we must go back to the 2000 CFU Club Championship. On November 1 of that year, during Matchday 2 of Group B, Harbour View FC of Jamaica defeated Paradise SC of Barbados 1-0 at Independence Park in Kingston (JAM), with the lone goal scored by Jermaine Hue.
How did they fare in Week 4?
Weymouth Wales earned a 1-1 away draw against Defence Force, with Ackeel Applewhaite scoring the equalizer in the 79th minute.
• Best moment yet for Weymouth Wales: The Barbadian club recorded its first-ever draw in the Caribbean Cup and is now on its longest unbeaten streak in the tournament — two consecutive matches without a loss.
• Unbeaten on the road: Weymouth Wales played its second away match and remains undefeated as a visiting team (1W–1D). They are the first club from Barbados to avoid defeat on the road in Caribbean international competitions — something Notre Dame (losses in 1997 and 1998) and Paradise SC (2L in 2000) were unable to achieve.
• Ackeel Applewhaite makes history: With his second goal of the tournament, Applewhaite ties Shaquille Stewart as Weymouth Wales’ all-time top scorer in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
