MIAMI, Florida – An interesting battle of styles is on tap in the first leg of the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup semifinals, as Moca of the Dominican Republic welcome in Robinhood of Suriname at the Estadio Moca 85 in Moca, Dominican Republic.
Moca were excellent defensively in the group stage, as the finished in second place in Group A allowing just three goals and registering a clean sheet in all three of their victories.
GK Odalis Baez played a big role in that success in making nine saves and six clearances during the four matches. Helping out as well was Clifford Thomas, who completed 162 passes and tied Manuel Vidal for the most ball recoveries on the team with seven each.
Robinhood surged their way to a first-place finish in Group B with a high-flying attack that scored eight goals and was led by 21-year-old striker Shaquille Cairo.
Cairo was the top scorer in Robinhood’s title-winning run at the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield with 10 goals and followed that up with a five-goal haul in the Caribbean Cup group stage.
He certainly wasn’t alone, though, as both Tuur Don and Jamilhio Rigters supplied two assists each over the four games, with Rigters also adding in a pair of goals himself.
This will be the first ever meeting between two clubs.
