The Soca Warriors, who conceded nine goals in their previous three qualifiers, remained in fifth place, but trail the fourth-place USA only on goal difference (+1 to -3).

Mexico: On Friday, Mexico took over first place in the Hexagonal with a 2-0 win over host Costa Rica, which had won its opening two matches and dropped into second place. Javier Hernandez (8’) gave the Tricolor an early lead, joining Jared Borgetti atop the team’s scoring chart with 46 all-time goals. The advantage was doubled in the 45th minute as Nestor Araujo headed in Carlos Vela’s corner kick at the left post. Mexico has conceded only two goals in nine 2018 WCQs.
