Larin strike lifts Canada over Haiti

A first half goal from Cyle Larin was enough to lift Canada to a 1-0 win over Haiti in the first leg of the Second Round of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022 on Saturday afternoon at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Canada got off to a dream start, with Larin breaking the deadlock in the 15’ by taking a Jonathan Osorio cross from the right flank and finishing into net for a 1-0 lead.

Larin very nearly made it two just minutes later when he found himself in front of goal with another chance, but this time Haiti GK Johny Placide was there to make the save.

Placide was called into action again to start the second half, denying Jonathan David in a one-on-one in the 52’ to keep it a one-goal game.

Haiti began to mount more pressure as the second half wore on in search of the equalizer and tested Canada GK Milan Borjan on several occasions, including on an overhead kick from Kevin Lafrance that Borjan had to touch over the crossbar to safety.

In the end, though, Canada managed to lock things down to earn the clean sheet victory and give themselves the advantage going into Tuesday’s second leg.
