MIAMI, Florida – El Salvador are 90 minutes away from reaching the final round of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022 heading into Tuesday’s second leg of their second round series against Saint Kitts and Nevis at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador.
The Central Americans could not have asked for a better outing in the first leg in the Caribbean. David Rugamas scored a brace to lead the way in a 4-0 win, which leaves El Salvador plenty of room to spare heading into Tuesday’s fixture.
Still, Head Coach Hugo Perez will be keen to see another strong performance at both ends of the field to help set the tone for the final round of qualifying, which begins in the fall.
Rugamas has eight goals thus far in WCQ, while the El Salvador defense has kept an impressive four clean sheets in five matches.
While Saint Kitts and Nevis face a very tall comeback task, a positive result on Salvadoran soil would be strong way to end what has been a very solid WCQ campaign.
The Sugar Boyz did keep the El Salvador defense on their toes at certain points during Saturday’s first leg and no doubt the visiting islanders are more than capable of picking up a result on Tuesday.
