MIAMI, Florida – Concacaf legend and Canadian Women’s National Team player Christine Sinclair was honored by FIFA on Monday at The Best FIFA Football Awards with a Special Award for her career achievements.
The world’s all-time leading international goal scorer among all men’s and women’s players with 188 goals, Sinclair is in her 23rd year as a player and is fresh off a 2021 in which she helped Canada win their first ever Olympic Gold Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 38-year-old has also competed in five FIFA Women’s World Cups in addition to winning three Olympic medals, with Bronze Medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016 to accompany last summer’s Gold.
Sinclair also earned a Concacaf championship at the 2010 Concacaf Women’s Championship.
“Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to experience many successes from winning trophies internationally and at club level and accepting individual awards,” said Sinclair in a statement via Canada Soccer’s website.
“What matters are all the moments that I have shared and the connections that I have made. Being one of the first to receive this award is an incredible honor. I hope it inspires young girls around the world to chase their dreams and lets them know that anything is possible,” added Sinclair.
On an individual level, Sinclair’s accomplishments are numerous. The legendary FW ranks as the top-scorer in Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying history with 21 and won the Golden Boot at the 2012 London Olympics by finishing the tournament with six goals.
Sinclair was also co-winner of the Golden Boot at the 2002 (7 goals) and 2006 (2 goals) CWCs, and took home Golden Boot honors at both the 2002 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup (10 goals) and the 2012 CWOQ (nine goals).
