WILLEMSTAD Jonathan David and Cyle Larin scored to lead Canada to a 2-0 win versus Curacao in Group C of League A on Saturday night at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao.

With the result, both Canada and Honduras qualify for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, while Curacao’s place in the Gold Cup Prelims is confirmed.

Curacao looked to come out of the gates strong and came close to an opener in the 15’ when a rebound off a free kick fell to Jurien Gaari, who fired over the crossbar.

Canada soon took control though and grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 23’ when a cross from Richie Laryea found the charging David, who duly hammered a shot into net.

Curacao’s comeback task got a lot tougher in the 38’ when Gaari was sent off for his second yellow card of the night, and Canada did not hesitate to take advantage, with David finding Cyle Larin, who finished from inside the area for a 2-0 lead in the 43’.

The home sider was keen to try to work their way back into the match and got a good look in the 57’ through captain Cuco Martina, only to see his effort go right into the waiting hands of Canada GK Milan Borjan.

In the end, Canada were able to see things out to secure the win and keep alive their chances of the CNL Finals.
