MITROVICA, Kosovo – Players from the Haiti national team expressed their delight in being Kosovo’s first opponent in a FIFA-sanctioned friendly, which will be played Wednesday at Stadiumi Olimpik Adem Jashari.
The CONCACAF squad trained on Tuesday and was greeted with applause upon its arrival to the ground.
“They told us that the stadium has already been sold-out…that’s good,” said Haitian forward Fabien Vorbe, who played in three matches at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup. “More than anything, we want it to be a great event for Kosovo, for the Kosovo people, for the Kosovo national team.
“And, also, I mean for us, it’s a good showcase, it’s a good game.”
Goalkeeper Dominique Jean Zephirin started all four games for Haiti at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and has played a great majority of his career in France and England. He was impressed by the team’s reception.
“We feel good,” commented Zephirin. “We appreciate the welcome you make for us and we are ready for tomorrow.”
