COMMERCE CITY, Colorado – The Colorado Rapids announced Thursday the acquisition of defender Deklan Wynne from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for financial considerations.

The New Zealand international, 22, becomes the second New Zealand international to join the Rapids this offseason after Kip Colvey was selected by the club in the 2017 MLS Waiver Draft on December 13.

Wynne spent the past three seasons with Whitecaps FC’s USL side, arguably turning in his most successful campaign in this year, tallying two goals in 20 games. He began his professional career in New Zealand, appearing in 26 games for Wanderers SC from 2013-15.

With New Zealand, Wynne has competed in the FIFA Confederations Cup (2017: 2 games/0 goals) and the FIFA U-20 World Cup (2015: 4/0).

Both Wynne and Colvey have been reunited with former New Zealand head coach Anthony Hudson, who was handed the Rapids’ managerial reins on November 29, 2017.

Colorado is competing in the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, opening play in the Round of 16 against Toronto FC (1st leg: February 20, home; 2nd leg: February 27, away).
