MEXICO CITY – The Mexico women’s national team opened a 27-player training camp on Monday evening at the Mexican Football Federation’s High Performance Center in order to continue preparations for the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.
The CONCACAF event, which doubles as a qualifying competition for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, will be held October 15-26 in four cities across the United States: Kansas City, Kansas; Chicago, Illinois; Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Both finalists and the winner in the match for third place will earn automatic World Cup places, while the fourth-place team will meet Ecuador in a playoff for another spot.
Mexico will face Group B opponents Costa Rica (October 16 in Kansas City), Martinique (October 18 in Bridgeview, Illinois) and Jamaica (October 21 in Washington, D.C.)
The Tricolor has qualified for two of the six all-time Women’s World Cups (1999, 2011).
