CHICAGO – The United States Soccer Federation announced Friday that its men’s national team will face host Scotland in Glasgow on November 15 at Hampden Park.
According to FIFA records, the sides have met on six previous occasions, with the series even at 2-2-2.
In their most recent encounter, a Landon Donovan hat-trick led the U.S. to a 5-1 win on May 26, 2012, in Jacksonville, Florida.
They last squared off on Scottish soil in 2005, when a Josh Wolff penalty kick in the 9th minute gave the Americans a 1-0 lead, before Andy Webster equalized 28 minutes to complete the eventual 1-1 scoreline.
"The game against Scotland is crucial for us because we have so few games between now and when we name the roster for the FIFA World Cup," said U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. "It's a huge opportunity for the players, and we are excited to play against a team and in a venue that has so much tradition and history in football."
The U.S. qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil after a 2-0 triumph over Mexico on September 10 in Columbus, Ohio, and has set a new team record for wins in a single year with 14.
