CHICAGO -- For the first time since 1947, Cuba will host the United States for an international friendly, when the sides meet on October 7 at the Estadio Pedro Marrero in Havana, U.S. Soccer announced Thursday.

It will be the Americans’ second visit to Cuba in the last 69 years. On September 6, 2008, they posted a 1-0 win in the semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

"We are happy to have the chance to bring our team to Cuba," said U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. "In addition to good competition, we are always looking for our group to have different experiences, and this is a unique opportunity."

In their last meeting on July 18, 2015, Clint Dempsey scored three goals as the U.S. earned a 6-0 victory in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals
