CHICAGO – United States head coach Bruce Arena named Friday a 23-player roster for Sunday’s international friendly against visiting Serbia on Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California.
It will be the Americans’ first match of 2017, giving 27-year-old forward Jozy Altidore an opportunity to become the second youngest U.S. player to reach the 100-cap mark after Landon Donovan, who did it in June 2008 at the age of 26.
A total of 31 players participated in a training camp that opened on January 10 in Carson, California.
"I have been extremely pleased with the effort and progress we have seen throughout the January Camp," Arena said. "The entire pool of players has performed well and has made our roster decisions very difficult. We are excited to take the next step and look forward to the game against Serbia in San Diego.”
Three of those selected to face Serbia are from clubs participating in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals: goalkeeper Luis Robles, midfielder Sacha Kljestan (both New York Red Bulls) and defender Walker Zimmerman (FC Dallas).
