LOS ANGELES – LA Galaxy and United States standout Gyasi Zardes underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a stress fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, the 24-year-old announced via his Twitter account.
Zardes, who will reportedly miss the remainder of Major League Soccer’s regular season, suffered the injury Saturday during the Galaxy’s 0-0 draw against the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps.
This season, he made 19 appearances in MLS play, scoring six goals, including two game-winners. For his LA Galaxy career, the attacker has scored 32 goals.
Zardes will miss the USA’s last two fourth-round World Cup qualifiers against St. Vincent & the Grenadines (September 2, away) and Trinidad & Tobago (September 6, home).
