CHARLESTON, South Carolina -- Trinidad & Tobago internationals Neveal Hackshaw and Ataullah Guerra have joined the Charleston Battery from TT Pro League sides, the USL club announced Thursday.
Guerra, a forward, was most recently with Central FC, while midfielder Hackshaw arrives from the North East Stars.
“I want to win games, and I came here to win as many trophies as I could,” said Guerra.
The 28-year-old forward, a 2013 Finnish Cup winner with Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS), scored two goals in helping Central FC win the 2015 CFU Club Championship and earn a place in the 2015/16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL). For T&T, he has three career Caribbean Cup goals and one in World Cup Qualifying.
“He wants to do well, he wants the team to do well,” Charleston general manager and head coach Mike Anhaeuser said of the 38-time capped Guerra, who netted twice in the SCCL. “He gets on the players, he gets on himself. But he does it in a good way, because he wants to succeed. He gets upset if he misses a pass that he knows he should have hit, he wants guys to get it in to him. And that’s what guys with experience and that edge bring to the table.”
Hackshaw, 20, made his T&T debut in a friendly against Panama on March 27, 2015, and has earned four caps. He also played in all five of the Soca Warriors’ games at the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.
“He (Hackshaw) came available to us and we really jumped on it right away,” commented Anhaeuser. “He’s been in now for several weeks, and he’s been showing that, even for a young player, he’s got a lot of potential and a big upside.”
