PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago – Trinidad & Tobago head coach Dennis Lawrence announced Saturday a 25-man roster for a World Cup qualifier against visiting Honduras on September 1 at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
Eleven players were retained from the squad that dropped a 2-1 decision to Jamaica in an international friendly Thursday, including winger Kevon Villaroel, who scored the Soca Warriors’ lone goal.
“After a proper assessment of the players who have been with us and also those have been involved with their clubs overseas, we’ve selected a squad that we believed is the best one at the moment that can get us the result we are working towards,” said Lawrence. “We will put in the work with the boys over the next few days to try to ensure that we are prepared as best as possible for what is ahead of us coming Friday against Honduras.”
The side is highlighted by the inclusion of Seattle Sounders FC defender/midfielder Joevin Jones, T&T’s top scorer in qualifying for Russia 2018 with four goals.
T&T sits last in the CONCACAF Hexagonal table on three points from six matches, five points behind the United States for the third and last automatic qualifying spot.
Lawrence will open a training camp Monday.
