COMMERCE CITY, Colorado – The Colorado Rapids announced Thursday the signing of Trinidad & Tobago international Mekeil Williams from Antigua GFC.
The 25-year-old defender appeared in 20 games and scored one goal for the Guatemalan side, helping it to the 2015 Apertura title.
“Mekeil is a player we have been tracking since Trinidad & Tobago’s successful run in the Gold Cup last year,” said Paul Bravo, Technical Director and VP of Soccer Operations. “Mekeil is starting to establish himself at international level. He will bring a versatility, athleticism and strong mentality to our backline. We are delighted to welcome him to our club."
Williams began his professional career with Ma Pau SC in 2009 prior to signing with fellow TT Pro League club W Connection in 2011. He then went on to play for Polish club Pogon Szczecin (2012) and Denmark’s FC Fyn (2012-13), before returning to W Connection (2013-15) and then moving to Antigua GFC last summer.
With T&T, Williams has earned 11 caps and scored one goal, netting in his international debut against Finland on January 22, 2012 (3-2 loss). Williams appeared in three 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches for the Soca Warriors, including the memorable 4-4 draw against eventual-champion Mexico.
