BUDAPEST, Hungary – Hungarian side Honved announced Tuesday that it signed Panama international Anibal Godoy from Chepo FC.
Godoy traveled to Budapest on Saturday to finalize the three-year agreement and was expected to return to Panama to join the national team for training in advance of September’s World Cup Qualifying matches against Jamaica and Honduras.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who was the subject of transfer speculation with Rangers of Scotland earlier in the year, played a key role in the Canaleros’ run to a second-place finish in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Godoy previously played abroad with Godoy Cruz (2012) in Argentina and has appeared in 11 of Panama’s 12 qualifiers for Brazil 2014.
