FRANKFURT, Germany – Mexico international Marco Fabian is expected to be out of action until January, after his club Eintracht Frankfurt announced Thursday that he will undergo back surgery.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who was receiving therapy for the injury that initially emerged last season, will be operated on in Houston, Texas, USA, Dr. Michael Dittmar.
"It was a big blow for Marco and for us that his back pain was not improving,” said Fredi Bobic, an Eintracht Frankfurt board member. “We hope for a successful operation and that he will fully recover, all the best to him."
Fabian played in three matches for Mexico in this summer’s FIFA Confederations Cup, scoring the “Goal of the Tournament” in a 4-1 semifinal loss to Germany.
He will miss the last four games of Mexico’s qualifying schedule for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be played in September and October.
