METAPAN, El Salvador – Ten-time Salvadoran champion Isidro Metapan announced Sunday the signing of El Salvador international Jose Peña.
On the books with FAS since December 2013, the forward helped the Santa Ana-based side to a runner-up finish in the recently completed 2015 Salvadoran Apertura, scoring one goal in 14 games.
Peña rose to prominence in 2013, thanks to his performances with the El Salvador under-20 national team. He netted once in the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship as the Cuscatlecos finished in third place to earn a first-ever appearance in the U-20 World Cup.
At the FIFA event later that year, Peña struck for the game-winning goal in the Central Americans’ 2-1 win over Australia.
The 21-year-old made his debut with the El Salvador senior squad in a 1-0 win at Curacao on September 4, 2015, and now his six caps.
Peña also struck for one goal in the 2011 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.
Isidro Metapan topped the 2015 Salvadoran Apertura regular-season table with an 11W-6D-5L record, before falling to FAS in the semifinals, 2-1 on aggregate.
