TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras -- Honduras head coach Jorge Luis Pinto announced Monday a 23-player roster for a pair of upcoming international friendlies at home against Guatemala (October 8 in Tegucigalpa) and South Africa (October 13 in San Pedro Sula).
Among those receiving an invitation, 21 were part of the squad that defeated Venezuela (3-0) and lost to Ecuador (2-0) last month. The two new additions are Honduras Progreso forward Angel Tejeda --the joint-top scorer in the 2015 Honduran Apertura with Motagua’s Lucas Gomez (9 goals) -- and veteran Jerry Bengtson, who plays for Iran’s Pesepolis FC.
The Catrachos are preparing to kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which opens with a fourth-round encounter at Canada on November 13.
