TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Two days prior to its international friendly at Nicaragua, Honduras opened Monday a brief training camp.
Head coach Jorge Luis Pinto convened 18 players, 17 of whom compete domestically, including two players from current champion Honduras Progreso – defender Dilmer Gutierrez and forward Angel Tejeda. The only foreign-based squad member is 25-year-old midfielder Alfredo Mejia, who has appeared in 18 league games for Greece’s Panthrakikos this season.
Nineteen-year-old forward Alberth Elis – the joint-top scorer at the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship with four goals – leads at seven-man contingent from Olimpia.
The match will be played Wednesday at the Estadio Nacional in Managua.
