LONDON – Chelsea announced Wednesday that it has loaned United States international Matt Miazga to Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old defender joined Chelsea in January from New York Red Bulls and made two English Premier League appearances against Aston Villa (April 2, 2016) and Swansea (April 9, 2016).
Miazga was named the 2015 U.S. Soccer young male player of the year, earning the first of his two international caps in a World Cup qualifier against St. Vincent & the Grenadines on November 13. He also played in the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship (5 games, 0 goals), the FIFA U-20 World Cup (4 games, 0 goals) and the CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship (4 games, 1 goal).
In 2014, Miazga – who was not called in for the USA’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago -- appeared in one Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League match.
