SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Honduras (1W-0D-0L, 3 points) scored two brilliant goals – one in each half -- and earned a 2-0 win over Panama (0-0-1, 0), in the 2017 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship classification stage on Monday at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.

With the result, the Catrachos hold the initial advantage in Group E and will book a ticket to the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup with as little as a draw against Costa Rica on Wednesday.

Darixon Vuelto struck for the first goal in the sixth minute, receiving a pass down the right from Douglas Martinez and shifting towards the middle, before drilling a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Charles Taylor from the top of the 18-yard box.

In the 81st minute, Jorge Alvarez pounced on an errant Panama clearance and unleashed a right-footed rocket from 25-yards out that went under the crossbar for his third goal of the competition.

Panama came close to halving the deficit two minutes later, but goalkeeper Javier Delgado made a tremendous save on Roberto Cordoba's effort.
