Honduras U20s fall to Uruguay, New Zealand next

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay -- The Honduras under-20 national team ended up splitting its two-game friendly series against host Uruguay, following a 2-1 win with a 5-0 loss on Wednesday at the Estadio Luis Franzini.

In a physical encounter between 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifiers, the Central Americans finished with only eight players after the ejections of Kevin Alvarez (15’), Carlos Moncada (45’), Kevin Lopez (73’).

Uruguay struck for three first-half goals through Erick Cabaco (13'), Jaime Baez (20') and Facundo Castro (26'), while Franco Acosta (74') and Nahitan Nandez (86') completed the scoreline with late tallies.

Honduras is scheduled to fly Friday to U-20 World Cup host nation New Zealand, opening its campaign against Group F rival Uzbekistan on June 1, followed by meetings with Fiji (June 4) and Germany (June 7).  All three matches will be in Christchurch.
