BRADENTON, Florida – Following a strong performance in a narrow 1-0 loss to Haiti on Matchday One of Group E at the 2018 Concacaf Under-20 Championship, Saint Lucia recorded its first ever CU20 victory with a 2-1 triumph over Barbados on Monday.
Saint Lucia struck early in the 14’ when Nangee Philip pounced on a loose ball in front of the Barbados goal, but the young Baja Tridents pulled level in the 47’ when Ray Francis swept in a right-footed shot.
Minutes later though Saint Lucia would earn a penalty and Sebastin Ribot calmly stroked in the spot kick in the 51’ for the historic 2-1 victory.
In a battle of the group’s two unbeaten teams, Costa Rica emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Haiti.
Andy Reyes tallied for the Ticos in the 31’ before the Costa Rican defense took over for the clean sheet triumph.
