BRADENTON, Florida – Cuba, Antigua and Barbuda and Honduras all collected big wins as Group C play kicked off on Thursday at the 2018 Concacaf Under-20 Championship.
Cuba was first to take the field and took care of business in a 6-1 win against Belize. It was a balanced performance from the Caribbean side, with three goals in each half, led by Jean Carlos Rodriguez’s brace.
Zayn Hakeem was the man of the hour for Antigua and Barbuda as he notched a first-half hat-trick to help power the Benna Boyz to a commanding 6-1 win against CU20 debutants Sint Maarten,
While it was not the result that Sint Maarten, it managed to score its first ever CU20 goal through Jaeremi Drijvers in the 17’.
It was a similarly prolific evening for Honduras on the scoresheet in its 7-1 win against the Dominican Republic.
Both Cesar Romero and Everson Lopez bagged braces, with the latter scoring a spectacular goal from midfield.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo Vasquez earned the distinction of being the Dominican Republic’s first ever goalscorer at a CU20.
