LUBLIN, Poland – Honduras’s Group C campaign at the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup continued with a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay on Monday afternoon at the Lublin Stadium in Lublin, Poland.
It was a very tight first half between the two teams, with chances for both sides, however it was Uruguay who found the opening score in the 41’.
A headed cross from the right wing bounced across in front of goal and reached the waiting Nicolas Acevedo, who turned a close-range shot into net for a 1-0 Uruguay lead.
A series of excellent saves from Honduras GK Jose Garcia kept the Catrachos within striking distance, but they were unable to find a way past the Uruguayan defense.
Honduras continued to push numbers forward in hopes of an equalizer, but a late Uruguay counterattack finished off by Nicolas Schiappacasse in the 90+1’ dashed Honduras’ chances of a point.
Honduras will complete its group stage campaign on Thursday versus Norway.
