MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – The official logo for the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship was unveiled on Monday prior to the competition’s draw at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa.
Using the national symbols of the host country, Jamaica, the logo consists of its national bird -- the Doctor Bird -- and national flower -- Lignum Vitae.
The Doctor Bird, or Swallow-Tail Hummingbird, can be found only in Jamaica. Its feathers have unique, iridescent hues.
The Lignum Vitae was discovered in Jamaica by Christopher Columbus and the name -- translated from Latin -- means "wood of life," which is representative of its medicinal qualities.
These two elements were chosen and depicted in order to represent the country of Jamaica. The background colors and flag were also selected to portray the national colors of Jamaica -- black, gold and yellow.
