PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Curacao won the inaugural Caribbean Football Union U-15 Championship title, defeating the Dominican Republic 4- 2 in the final on Sunday at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex.
The Curacaoans finished the competition with a perfect 6W-0D-0L record, scoring 28 goals and conceding only four.
In the tournament decider, though, Freddy Feliz wouldn’t let the Dominican Republic go down without a fight. After Luchently Vrutaal gave Curacao a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, Feliz (36’, 39’) struck twice early in the second half to put the Dominicans ahead.
Not to be outdone, Curacao’s Nathan Bernadina – the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and top scorer -- netted the next two goals (60’, 64’), while a superb individual effort by Vrutaal (70’) in the last minute to complete the scoreline.
Earlier in the day, the Cayman Islands captured third place, 5-4 on penalty kicks, after a 1-1 draw against St. Lucia
