PANAMA CITY, Panama -- The Federación Panameña de Fútbol (FEPAFUT) announced Monday that Leonardo Pipino will be the head coach of the under-23 national team, effective April 1.
The Argentine replaces Nelson Gallego, who will continue as an assistant to national team manager Hernan Dario Gomez.
The move was made primarily due to a shift in the dates of Central American qualifying from June to mid-August. Additionally, the U23 team is scheduled to participate in the Pan American Games in Toronto (July 11-26, 2015), while the senior side contests the CONCACAF Gold Cup (July 7-26, 2015).
Pipino is also the under-20 national team head coach, guiding the side to a place in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup after a runner-up finish in the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.
He will hold a U23 mini-camp, in conjunction with the U20s, April 1-5.
