BRASILIA, Brazil -- Honduras (1W-1D-1L, 4 points) guaranteed itself a second straight appearance in the Men's Olympic Football Tournament quarterfinals thanks to a 1-1 draw with Argentina (1-1-1, 4) on Wednesday at the Estadio Mane Garrincha.

With the result, the Catrachos sealed a second-place finish in Group D, edging the Argentineans on goal difference (0 to -1). Portugal (2-1-0, 7) captured the top spot following a 1-1 draw with Algeria.

Bryan Acosta and Angel Correa failed to convert penalties on either side of the break for Honduras and Argentina, respectively.

In the 75th minute, however, Honduras’ Antony Lozano was successful from spot after Alberth Elis was fouled by Lautaro Giannetti.

Needing a victory to advance, Argentina pushed forward and leveled in the third minute of stoppage time off Mauricio Martinez’s deflected free kick.

Four years ago, Honduras fell 3-2 to eventual finalist Brazil in the London 2012 quarterfinals, one of the competition’s most compelling encounters.
