Panama’s Pimentel undergoes surgery in Chicago

CHICAGO – Panama international Valentin Pimentel underwent successful surgery to repair a broken left hip, the Federación Panameña de Fútbol announced Sunday.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who plays for La Equidad in Colombia, suffered the injury in the first half of Panama’s 5-0 loss to Argentina in the Copa America Centenario on Friday at Soldier Field.

In the 17th minute, after he landed from jumping for a ball in the Argentinean penalty area, Pimentel fell to ground awkwardly and was replaced by Miguel Camargo.

His rehabilitation will start tomorrow in Chicago. No timeline has been indicated for recovery.
