PANAMA CITY, Panama – Each of the four national teams participating in Friday’s Copa America Centenario play-in matches at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez had two previous opportunities to earn a berth in the much-anticipated competition.

Cuba, Haiti, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago could have secured automatic qualification by winning their biennial regional championships in 2014 or by capturing the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup crown.

Even though the sides did neither, they were the four highest finishers at the Gold Cup not to have already booked a ticket to the event. As a result, one last lifeline is available, which will enable two more teams to accompany previously confirmed CONCACAF participants: USA (host), Mexico (automatic entrant), Costa Rica (2014 Central American Cup champion) and Jamaica (2014 Caribbean Cup champion).

How have the hopeful quartet performed in competitive matches since the 2014 FIFA World Cup ended and the process to reach the Copa America Centenario began?
