CHICAGO – Two CONCACAF representatives entered the Copa America Centenario quarterfinals and only one emerged to be among the final four teams in the 100th anniversary edition of the South American Championship.

On Tuesday, the host United States will face Argentina in Houston for a place in Sunday’s final against either Colombia or defending champion Chile.

It will mark the eighth time that a CONCACAF side has participated in this stage of the competition.

Mexico has made five semifinal appearances, while Honduras and the U.S. have each advanced that far once previously.

In those outings, CONCACAF teams have posted a record of 2W-0D-5L. Mexico has come up victorious on two occasions, defeating Ecuador (2-0) in 1993 and overcoming Uruguay (2-1) in 2001.

The USA’s only journey into the Copa America semifinals came in 1995, when a 13th minute goal by Aldair lifted Brazil a 1-0 win.
