Arcahaie and Verdes ready to kick off SCL

MIAMI, Florida – The 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League will officially be off and running when Arcahaie FC of Haiti host Verdes FC of Belize in the Preliminary Round on Tuesday night.

For both teams, it marks their first ever appearance in the SCL, with Arcahaie qualifying after a third-place finish in the group stage of the 2020 Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship and Verdes punching their ticket thanks to having the best aggregate record in 2019-20 in the Belize Premier League.

Unlike Arcahaie, who are participating in a Concacaf tournament for the first time, Verdes are familiar with the bright lights of Concacaf nights after having played in the 2008-09 and 2015-16 editions of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.

Arcahaie are just the second Haitian club to qualify for the SCL, following in the footsteps of AS Capoise in 2019, while Verdes become the second team from Belize to appear in the tournament after breaking the Belmopan Bandits’ stronghold from 2017-19.

For the Haitians, GK Guerry Romondt will provide a steady hand in goal, while FW Marc Beldor showed in the CCCC in his club’s 1-0 win over Portmore United that he knows how to finish in front of net

Verdes come into the affair with a plethora of weapons, including star striker Mariano Landero, who led the 2019-20 Belize Premier League with 14 goals. Aiding Landero up top will be fellow FW Krisean Lopez, who notched nine goals last season.

Tuesday’s encounter marks the first ever meeting between the two clubs.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
