The draw will be held on Tuesday, October 25th in Panama
Guatemala (Monday, October 24, 2016) – The Central America Football Union (UNCAF) confirmed today the official draw for the Central American Cup Panama 2017. The draw will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 6:00pm local time (7:00pm EDT). The event will be hosted at the Hotel Sortis in Panama City.
The draw will divide the seven countries of the central american region into two groups, one group of four and the other of three teams, for the tournament. Panama, the host nation, will lead one group, while the defending champion, Costa Rica, will be seeded in the other.
The championship is scheduled to be played in the Panamanian Estadio Rommel Fernandez, from January 13-22, 2017.
For the draw, the Panamanian and Costa Rican national teams will be placed in their positions as the head of Group A and Group B, respectively. The national teams of Belize and Nicaragua will occupy Pot 1, while those of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras will be placed in Pot 2.
Nicaragua and Belize will be drawn into positions A3 and A4, meanwhile the teams in Pot 2 will be drawn into positions A2, B2 and B3.
Therefore, the pots for the draw are as follows:
Pot 1: Belize, Nicaragua
Pot 2: El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras
Pot 3: Positions A3, A4
Pot 4: Positions A2, B2, B3
The four semifinalists of the 2017 Central American Cup classify directly to the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017. The fifth place team will participate in a playoff match against the fifth place team of the 2017 Caribbean Cup, to determine the last ticket for next year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
